Title 1 Parent Involvement Policy Title I District Parent Involvement PolicyCenter Woods Elementary SchoolIn accordance with Federal regulation, the Title I Parent Involvement Policy Center Woods Elementary is designed to further positive communication between school and home.Parent involvement in the schools’ Title I programs include opportunities to participate in activities related to assisting students in developing strong academic skills, and to contribute to their child’s education. This parent involvement policy also includes procedures related to the design and implementation of the respective school-based programs under Title I.Parent participation is also encouraged in activities, which support parent awareness, orientation, and training in the use of materials, which enhance a parent’s capacity to support his/her child’s progress at home and school.In support of Title I parent involvement . . . Each Parent/guardian is made aware of his/her child’s qualification for Title I services. Information about Title 1 is provided so an informed decision can be made regarding a child's participation. If permission is granted the parent/guardian will return a signed permission slip to the school. Parental input is a valuable part of understanding each child's educational needs. Parents/guardians are encouraged to request information regarding a student's individual goals. This can be accomplished through meetings, phone conferences and emails. Each child’s parents or guardian will be invited to an evening Open House held in the fall to meet with the Title I teacher, to learn more about Title I and their child’s participation and their right to be involved. Information about Title I, the parent compact and their rights are reviewed at the Open House. If the parent/guardian cannot attend the Open House, the Title I teacher will plan a mutually agreeable time to meet with the parent. Transportation or childcare will not be a barrier to attending. Home visits can also be made if the parent agrees. Parents/guardians will be notified that they can request information regarding the professional qualifications of their student’s classroom teacher, Title I teacher, and any Title I paraprofessionals. Progress reports are sent home on a trimester basis. Written notes and phone calls will also be used to update parents of student progress. Appointments can be made to meet with the Title I teacher and classroom teacher to review student progress and cooperatively plan for continued support any time during the year. The Title I teacher will keep records of testing, progress reports, samples of student work and instructional plans on each student served. Parents and guardians are invited to review student progress with the Title I teacher or classroom teacher anytime during the year or if a question about student progress arises. Parents or guardians are invited to visit the Title I program, after reasonable notice is given to the Title I teacher, and it does not disrupt other students. Parents and guardians are given the opportunity to evaluate their child’s participation in Title I and the effectiveness of the Parent Involvement Policy. This is accomplished through the use of a survey given at the end of the year. Parents/guardians will be provided information and materials throughout the year that may benefit their child’s progress at home. Parents/guardians are given an opportunity to share in the development of the Title I plan for the next school year through the use of a survey or as part of any communication contact done with the Title I teacher. Parents/guardians are encouraged and supported by the LEA (Local Educational Agency)to take part in all parental involvement activities. Based on parental feedback, the school can be flexible in providing education and training to parents through professional development activities. If a child has taken the Smarter Balanced Assessment,Title I parents are included whenever the school releases and shares the results with parents.
